House and Home Volume II

This little corner of our home makes my heart sing for special reasons.  While our "office" is bright, colorful, and all new; this corner is the opposite.

I consider this writing desk(213)/painting combo(214)to be our way of meshing the classic and antique with the new.

The painting is an original painted by Hubby's grandpa.  I never met him, but have heard amazing stories about what a fascinating man he was (215).  He painted (obviously), played the saw as a musical instrument, and seemed to have such a gentle disposition.

I was honored to have met Grandma though (216).  I was only 15 when we met and I only knew her for about 6 months before she passed away, but she is still one of my favorite people ever.  She was a really sweet little old lady who really impacted my husband's childhood and life.  I always felt loved near her.  Even back then I felt like I had her blessing. (217)

The desk pictured above was hers (218).  She actually sat at it and wrote letters to her sisters and other relatives.  They were always really good with written correspondence (something I wish I were really good at, one day.)

She left it to us and I am so grateful (219).  It's sentimental, yes, but it's also really lovely.  It's got good bones, it feels heavy, it's real Mahogany.  There's a little old fashioned key that goes with it (220).  I think that she would be happy to see it adorned with pictures of my guys, because they're her guys too.

I love how this piece really fits into our house and our home. (221)

  1. We had a piece almost like that, too, Kelly, except ours had only one drawer under the drop-down desk, and the rest was legs with a shelf on the bottom that spanned the legs(for footrest?) Teresa has it in her home now.

I see now how Lukas turned out to be such a gentle (but manly) soul. His grandparents sound like awesome role models!
